Kids Eat Free on Monday!

Tips for eating out with fussy eaters

Eating in a restaurant with children is usually quite challenging but it can become a nightmare if one of the kids is a fussy eater. Fussy eaters are difficult to feed because they are often fanciful about their food. Nonetheless, if you are the parent of a fussy eater it does not mean that you can no longer eat out with your children and have fun. All you need to do is take some precautions and everything should just be fine.

Before you go out make sure you choose the right restaurant. Nowadays there are many restaurants where kids eat free on Monday and they are likely to have a special menu for kids. You may want to take your children to one of these restaurants but beware that the fussy kid might reject your choice of restaurant just because he/she did not like the food on its kids' menu; don't force the kid to go to that restaurant because he/she is likely to give you trouble. Instead, allow the kids to choose a different restaurant where kids eat free on Monday. After all, there are so many of them.

In this regard it is a good idea to contact several restaurants beforehand and find out what is on their kids' menus. You will want to know whether or not these menus contain foods that your fussy eater will accept. If you realize that the foods are the same ones that you fight over at home it is wiser to avoid going out because there is no need to carry your feeding battles over to the restaurant. The good news for parents, however, is that there are numerous websites which list restaurants where kids eat free on Monday in addition to highlighting the items on their kids' menus.

While at the restaurant, restrict yourself to familiar foods. Avoid the temptation of experimenting with overly new foods that the children have never eaten before because the fussy eater is likely to reject them. Preferably, let each child order what he/she wants to eat. This way even the fussy eater will get a chance to order what he/she wants to eat at that particular time.

Sometimes it is a good idea to give the children something to eat before leaving home so that when you get to the restaurant they will not be very hungry. They are likely to be less bothersome in this state and you can thus order for something they will enjoy, like ice-cream, and if they wish to they can pick from your plate. At the end of the day it's up to you to see to it that you and your kids will enjoy eating out.
